Rigor. (from the lat. rigore) n. 1. harshness; strength; 2.fig., severity; punctuality; accuracy.

There is no "more or less levelled", "more or less upright”, "more or less clean" or "more or less safe", but rather “levelled”, "upright”, "clean” and “safe". The rigour is reflected in our procedures, in time and in the rules to follow. In the light of moral and principles, being severe means being rigorous.

Passion. (from the lat. passione) n. 1. intense and usually violent feeling (affection, joy, hate, etc.) which hinders the exercise of impartial logic; 2. derived from a feeling; 3. great predilection; 4. partiality; 5. great grief; immense suffering...

Under the sign of passion – a text of the Portuguese poet Regina Guimarães – is our icon. Passion is to reveal great enthusiasm for something, favourable encouragement or opposite to something.
It is the sensibility transmitted by an architect or engineer through work.
Passion is the dedication to a project. Passion is a state of warm soul.

Solidarity. (from the lat. solidare) n. 1. the quality of being solidary; 2. reciprocal responsibility among the members of a group, namely social, professional, etc.; 3. sense of sharing another’s suffering.

Being solidary is being a friend, offering our hand with genuine generosity and bringing joy and human warmth to those who, somehow, are marginalized. Being solidary is being more human. A solidary company is recognized as a fair and non-selfish company. A solidary company is a preferred choice in business. It is a more competitive company. Volunteering is a vehicle to solidarity. It is modern, fair, cultured, friend, it is a noble gesture of moral elevation.

Courage. (from the lat. coraticum) n. 1. bravery facing danger; intrepidity; to have audacity; 2. moral force before a suffering or setback; 3. [fig.] to input energy when performing a difficult task; perseverance...

Courage is essential in our life. Courage to face less pleasant situations when complex issues come up, not expecting random resolutions.
It is a value that we must highlight as opposed to the fearful, cowardly and laziness.
The courage to react to criticism not with an attitude of demotivation or sadness, but rather to search for the means and the action to overcome its own reason. This kind of courage, which is also an intellectual courage, is highly recommended.

Responsibility. (from the lat respondere) n. the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct; a form of trustworthiness.

We must be certain that, before a choice, we chose what is best for both of us and not just the best for each one. Each employee is responsible for his negotiated activity and co-responsible if the co-worker does not fulfil his own task, thus preventing the common goal. A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.

José Teixeira, dst CEO, considers: Happiness is a matter that should concern companies

Vida Económica

Companies should pay attention to the happiness of their employees - considers José Teixeira. For the DST Group CEO, productivity levels are linked to the way human resources are managed in organisations. José Teixeira presented the latest edition of the book "Lemon – Uma viagem para a felicidade” (Lemon - A journey to happiness), written by Sérgio Almeida, at FNAC Braga.

The businessman commented on the book while drawing parallels with what happens in DST, a company that is different from the usual, precisely because of the way it is managed. For José Teixeira, "there is still a great devaluation of the value of work in companies and its relationship with the protagonists". In the case of DST, reading plays a central role in its daily life. Workers are given a text, which is discussed on Thursdays. In fact, "it was in this context that I came to the reading of Sérgio Almeida's book, and the question of beliefs caught my attention. This is a theme which has also been the subject of debate in the DST group, and it is important to know the dimension of beliefs".

The head of the DST group stressed that he is interested in human behaviour as it is a way of knowing and understanding his workers. "It is important to understand the collective soul of the group, to synthesise and value people. This is a project of non-commiseration. We are capable of adapting. In addition to being responsible for what we do, we have to be co-responsible for what others don't do and should do." Now, from the work in question, José Teixeira has also taken the idea of the importance of effort, the idea of happiness through work. However, it is not enough to say that people are everything in a company. "We must not forget that people want their space of freedom, they want to be respected, they want space for career progression."

But the entrepreneur also presented an interesting vision of pleasure as an important factor in our lives. The idea of business exists as a negation of leisure, but leisure is also necessary. "The passion we put into everything we do is a process to that end that has pleasure in mind. In business, you can't just think about work and concentration. There must be moments of celebration, of personal communication. In turn, difficulties cannot act as a limitation to our duty to be ambitious. And, above all, all work must be dignified." Moreover, the worker must not be confined to the "funnel" of their activity, they must have other knowledge and interests. They must also be more intervening characters at all levels.

"Today it's almost insane to talk about happiness"

The book "Lemon – Uma viagem para a felicidade” (Lemon - A journey to happiness) deals with a complex theme in a simple way. Its creation did not have commercial objectives, but the need to transmit a message. Above all, it is a work that emerges from within, from a moment of happiness, in the words of its author, Sérgio Almeida.

It is a book that is also born out of a search for knowledge, the author having concluded on the importance of simple and accessible communication. "A company is not exclusively for making money. Making money is first and foremost a consequence. My unhappiness with organisations led me to write something with this very aim, from the perspective that the vision of happiness is based on merit, sometimes on joy or even sadness". For Sérgio Almeida, these days it is almost insane to speak of happiness when there are problems in the logistic chains, in financial terms, among others. In other words, "happiness ends up being a great challenge, it is a subject that is never exhausted, and we are also largely responsible for our own happiness".

It is a fact that we know a lot about many things, but very little about ourselves. Failure itself should be seen as a learning experience. And it is important to focus more on the simple things. In turn, "confidence does not exist without self-confidence and this does not exist without self-knowledge". Sérgio Almeida reveals himself to be an unconditional supporter of science, considering it to be essential in decision making. "To understand science and biology is to understand behaviour, eliminate error and become more productive."

The author of "Lemon - A journey to happiness" concludes that we are emotional beings who think. It is important to follow more and more the inner path and less the "cultural software". With his book, Sérgio de Almeida admits that he wanted to leave a seed of hope, to draw attention to the importance of "celebrating the magic of life".
