There is no "more or less levelled", "more or less upright”, "more or less clean" or "more or less safe", but rather “levelled”, "upright”, "clean” and “safe". The rigour is reflected in our procedures, in time and in the rules to follow. In the light of moral and principles, being severe means being rigorous.

Under the sign of passion – a text of the Portuguese poet Regina Guimarães – is our icon. Passion is to reveal great enthusiasm for something, favourable encouragement or opposite to something.

Respect for the principles and rules that guide the honour and probity. Faithfulness to commitments and agreements undertaken, staunch character.

Solidarity. (from the lat. solidare) n. 1. the quality of being solidary; 2. reciprocal responsibility among the members of a group, namely social, professional, etc.; 3. sense of sharing another’s suffering.
Being solidary is being a friend, offering our hand with genuine generosity and bringing joy and human warmth to those who, somehow, are marginalized. Being solidary is being more human. A solidary company is recognized as a fair and non-selfish company. A solidary company is a preferred choice in business. It is a more competitive company. Volunteering is a vehicle to solidarity. It is modern, fair, cultured, friend, it is a noble gesture of moral elevation.

Courage. (from the lat. coraticum) n. 1. bravery facing danger; intrepidity; to have audacity; 2. moral force before a suffering or setback; 3. [fig.] to input energy when performing a difficult task; perseverance...
Courage is essential in our life. Courage to face less pleasant situations when complex issues come up, not expecting random resolutions.
It is a value that we must highlight as opposed to the fearful, cowardly and laziness.
The courage to react to criticism not with an attitude of demotivation or sadness, but rather to search for the means and the action to overcome its own reason. This kind of courage, which is also an intellectual courage, is highly recommended.

Vehement desire to achieve a particular goal. Ambition not to resign ourselves. Ambition to take the best potential from ourselves. Ambition to deserve ourselves. Ambition to be athletes in our top-level competitive jobs. Ambition to beat our brands. Ambition to get the best deals with the maximum value, due to the high levels of proficiency and efficiency.

Esthetics. ESTHETICS (from the Greek aisthetiké, "sensitive") n.f. 1. Philosophy branch of philosophy that studies the beauty and nature of artistic phenomena; 2. author's own style, time, etc.; 3. harmony of shapes and colors, beauty; 4. set of techniques and treatments that aim to beautify the body.
We decided to build the company's economic foundations under a cultured, cosmopolitan and cool image. Because it is a charming state of being. Good taste because we are sustainable and we respect the planet. Good taste because we are sensitive. Good taste just because.

Responsibility. (from the lat respondere) n. the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct; a form of trustworthiness.
We must be certain that, before a choice, we chose what is best for both of us and not just the best for each one. Each employee is responsible for his negotiated activity and co-responsible if the co-worker does not fulfil his own task, thus preventing the common goal. A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.
We are “Business Achievement of the Year” (Conquista Empresarial do Ano)
We were honoured at the 7th edition of the Expresso Economy Awards to receive the Business Achievement of the Year (Conquista Empresarial do Ano) award, which is proof of our consolidated growth over the years, our specialised know-how and our strong contribution to the national economy.
Poetic Consultations
We took literature, poetry and music to the homeless people that the Red Cross in Braga takes in. This activity formed part of the ‘Noël Solidaire -Théâtre de la Ville’ initiative, and was undertaken in partnership with the Peripheral Landscape Association (Associação Paisagem Periférica).
2nd edition of the Utopia Literary Festival
We have once again teamed up with Utopia to invite unmissable personalities. For the inaugural session, we brought the writer and journalist Leïla Slimani, and the 14th session of the dst - vivos nas livrarias (dst - alive in bookshops initiative) brought together Julieta Monginho and Frederico Pedreira. Finally, for the closing session, we organised a concert at the Theatro Circo with the artist Johnny Hooker, followed by an after-party.
Reading Party on our campus
We organised a “reading party” for the first time on our campus in Braga for workers, students, teachers and librarians from the region, in collaboration with the National Reading Plan.
Reading in the crèche, at home, in hospital and in prison
We have taken reading to various places in the city of Braga, including crèches, old people's homes, hospitals and prisons. Mariana Jones, Aline Bei, Gonçalo M. Tavares and José Manuel Mendes were the authors invited to read extracts from their works.
Focus on the Extractive Industry
We support World Blasting Innovators, an event that brings together an international community of Extractive Industry experts. Indeed, we would highlight the “Quarry Open Day” event, for which we opened the doors of our CPA[G] – Aggregates Production Centre in Guimarães, to share the different technologies and innovations we have implemented. We took the opportunity to launch “The Quarry Programme”, as part of the dst school, which aims to bring together the different stakeholders in this industry.

dstgroup weddings
We make workers’ personal dreams come true! From 2024 onwards we will be offering all-expenses-paid weddings to our employees at our campus in Braga. The first dstgroup wedding took place on 15 June. It overflowed with emotion and fun, and was attended by over a hundred guests.

Over the course of 12 episodes, Pedro Abrunhosa brings together, in his podcast É Preciso Ter Calma (We Need to Take it Easy), some of the most prominent figures in Portuguese society, including Mayors, Doctors, communicators, Visual Artists, Businesspeople and Writers.

We have launched a new innovation initiative with the main objective of encouraging and recognizing the creativity and contribution of our employees. For each idea or interaction with other ideas that is placed in our online innovation box, the worker accumulates points and at the end of the year the top 3 will receive an author’s bookcase with dozens of books for their home plus a wellness pack.
29th dst Grand Prize for Literature
We have honoured José Viale Moutinho for his work “Desaparecimento Progressivo (Progressive Disappearance)” in the 29th edition of the dst Grand Prize for Literature. To embellish the gala in which the prize was awarded there was a poetry reading from the winning work by the actor Miguel Borges and a musical show by Rita Vian.
4 years later, we have completed the challenging EDP II headquarters
Through the work of the Chilean Alejandro Aravena, winner of a Pritzker Prize in 2016, the new EDP headquarters has come to fruition, the architect's first project in Portugal. Among the concrete of two tall towers rising up in Lisbon’s riverside area, the newly completed head office offers a unique aesthetic language, with unrivalled architectural touches.
Freedom, always
During this year, which marks the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April 1974, we have organised a series of initiatives to celebrate the attainment of freedom in Portugal. Various personalities have participated in these, including the following: a presentation of Alfredo Cunha’s book with photos edited by Vhils; a round table with Alfredo Cunha, Adelino Gomes, Colonel Carlos Matos Gomes and Maria Inácia Rezola, Executive Commissioner for the Commemorative Commission for the 50th anniversary of 25 April; a concert by Joana Gama; an open session with José Pacheco Pereira; and the inauguration of a mural by Manuela Pimentel.
We launch a satellite into space
30 years later, our company dstelecom was responsible for launching Portugal’s second satellite, AEROS, into space.

We won two PRRs.
We are the leaders of two projects under the PPR: NGS - New Generation Storage, which aims to develop a new generation of storage systems throughout the value chain, and R2UTechnologies - Modular system, which focuses on the development and industrialisation of a new disruptive construction concept in the field of sustainable and adaptive modular construction.
Living Lab at the Pompidou
Norman Foster visited the Pompidou Centre in Paris to present the largest retrospective exhibition of the last six decades. Our LivingLab project for modular construction solutions, which we are building at our campus in Braga, formed part of this exhibition, in the area dedicated to the theme of Nature and Urbanity.
Transition Leaders
Being the leader of a successful business group is a mission that goes beyond economic demands and involves considerable social, cultural and environmental responsibility. Given this, our chairperson, José Teixeira, was selected as one of 20 Portuguese personalities, including entrepreneurs, academics and activists, who wish to change the world for the better. Líderes de Transição (Transition Leaders) is a pioneering national project run by the Expresso newspaper with the support of EDP.
New company | b.again
b.again was born out of the need to use lithium-ion batteries in a conscious manner, thereby ensuring a better future. This involved the implementation of the first industrial units in Portugal, with global coverage of the value chain, in terms of the collection, reconditioning and recycling of these batteries.
Utopia Literary Festival
We were present at the first edition of the Utopia Literary Festival in Braga, organising a session with the French philosopher and sociologist Gilles Lipovetsky and a concert starring the artist Malu Magalhães. We also launched the “dst - alive in bookshops” project, which involves taking Portuguese authors into “the bookshops that still remain” in cities across the country to read short stories from their works.
Paris Metro Operating Centre
Our company dte, specialising in special installations, has won a seven million euro project with the Paris Metro. The New Operating Centre for the New Line 18 of the Paris Metro, on the Saclay plateau, will involve controlling and maintaining the metro equipment.
Reading over coffee
As part of the celebrations for the Grand Prize for Literature, we launched the “Reading over Coffee” initiative, which has made the prize-winning books from the last 28 years available in well-known cafés in the city of Braga. Involving more than 270 books, it has the aim of bringing people closer to literature and promoting the habit of reading.
Innovation
We have completed two important innovation projects: Smart-PV, which is based on the development of a photovoltaic asset management tool, and Building Hope, which aims to develop and validate a non-intrusive and user-friendly Holistic Optimisation of Prosumed Energy (HOPE) tool for buildings.
5th dstangola/Camões Literature Prize
João Melo was the winner of the 5th dstangola/Camões Literature Prize, with his work “Diário do Medo (Diary of Fear)”, published in 2021. The work unanimously won over the jury by revealing “a refined creative process, showing how reality can function as a subject for literary creation, while respecting aesthetic, technical and ethical values”.
28th dst Grand Prize for Literature
The 28th edition, which involved a tribute to Professor Vítor Aguiar e Silva, was won by Teolinda Gersão, with her work "O regresso de Júlia Mann a Paraty" (Julia Mann’s return to Paraty). The Theatro Circo hosted the award ceremony and gave a surprising performance of “Os Poetas - Entre Nós e as Palavras (The Poets - Amongst us and Words)”, by Rodrigo Leão and Gabriel Gomes.
Mini seminars on Art
This year we organised mini seminars on art and contemporary thought, taking us on a fascinating journey through the history of Art. Helena Mendes Pereira, curator of our gallery, the zet gallery, has been the mastermind behind these sessions.
International Cycle of Talks on Silence
We recognise the need for silence in a society that is so noisy that it cancels out the beauty that surrounds us, which is why we are promoting an international series of talks on silence. The sessions are taking place at our campus in Braga and we have already had the pleasure of hosting names such as Luís Portela, Alberto Romele, Pablo d’Ors, and Josep Maria Esquirol. Next year we will continue this cycle, as we host some of the most illustrious contemporary thinkers.
Innovative training
To train our drivers more effectively, we have acquired the new Komatsu simulator, which reproduces the operating functions of a machine, thus avoiding the risks or consequences of errors in actual use. We have also launched a pioneering Specialisation Training course in Construction Planning for Specialised Technicians, which will train highly qualified technicians to manage contracts on site.

The dedication, focus and prioritization of our workers was recognized with the attribution of the TOP Employer 2023 certificate. We are now part of a restricted group of 2053 companies from 121 countries, certified and aligned with the most demanding standards for evaluating human resources practices.
A challenging project
Our company bysteel has embraced a project that defies all standards, Worship Square in the UK, HB Reavis' most sustainable building to date, will be NetZeroCarbon throughout its lifecycle, in construction and in operation.
Miniclip Prize
Another internationally acclaimed work! Miniclip's new headquarters won the Bronze prize at the International Design Awards. The project built by our company dst also involved our engineering services companies, namely dte, tmodular and tlaboratório.

Because we recognize the importance of fighting for equality and feminism, we marked International Women's Day with the launch of our podcast «Camarim das Estrelas», (Dressing Room of the Stars) made by women and about the women who work at dstgroup. All episodes are available on spotify.
Manuel Graça Dias Prize, dst - Association of Architects, First Works
The first edition of the Manuel Graça Dias Prize, dst - Association of Architects, First Works, was awarded to the architects Ricardo Leitão and Rita Furtado, designers of "Casa em Freamunde”. The award ceremony took place on April 11, the date on which Manuel Graça Dias would have celebrated his birthday.
Painting Lessons at dstgroup
We inaugurated the painting studio, Atelier Kandinsky, in the Maria do Alívio Gonçalves Teixeira building, with free painting classes during working hours for all our workers, to stimulate creativity and personal development.

We defend equal opportunities, equity in leadership positions, the inclusion of minorities, the integration of refugees and former convicts and, for this reason, we were distinguished under the project Braga – Uma Viagem Intercultural, by the Municipality of Braga.
bysteel and bysteel fs works
Our company bysteel was awarded several challenging projects, such as one of the stages for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games or, in the Italian market, the construction of a steel superstructure for one of the largest dark matter detectors. Also, Worship Square, HB Reavis´ most sustainable building, located in London.
Bysteel fs, in turn, was awarded the construction of the Grand IDA quarter, in Monaco, which will create more than 200 apartments for the country's natural residents. And the design and construction of the façade of the Porte de la Chapelle Arena in Paris.

CER - dstsolar
We put into operation at our campus, in Braga, the first Renewable Energy Community (CER) in Portugal, of an industrial nature! Our company dstsolar is responsible for its creation, activation and now monitoring. With an installed power of 736 kW, this CER will provide us with between 30 and 40% of the energy needed for the operation of all installed companies.
December
We represented Portugal and ANIET (National Association of Extractive and Manufacturing Industry) in the most important European sustainability award for the aggregates industry, the UEPG - Sustainable Development Awards 2022. With our project at Pedreira de Gouvães, we received two European Certificates of Excellence in the categories “Good Environmental Practices” and “Good Operational Practices: Innovation in the Process/Product”, the latter also being awarded the European Prize.
bysteel Dezeen Awards
RSHP's Richard Rogers' Drawing Gallery, a project in which bysteel and bysteelfs participated, won the 2022 Dezeen Awards in the Small Building of the Year category. It features our gravity defying iconic 120m2 steel structure suspended in the air.
Portugal Inspirador Awards
Our chairman José Teixeira was distinguished with the Personality of the Year Award in the Innovation, Technology and Industry category, at the Portugal Inspirador Awards. bysteel fs, our company specializing in façade systems, also won the SME award in the same category. This distinction acquires a very special character as it highlights our concern and strong commitment to innovation and economic development.
Architecture prize
We are proudly associated with yet another differentiating initiative, as exclusive sponsors of the Manuel Graça Dias dst Award — Ordem dos Arquitectos, Primeira Obra, in partnership with the Association of Portuguese Architects. In addition to honoring Manuel Graça Dias, the award aims to recognize and celebrate the quality of architecture produced by recently qualified architects, in order to encourage professional practice, in the sense of creativity, environmental considerations and good practices.
Prize for Fraião Church
The Ancestral Church of Fraião won the 2022 Architecture Master Prize in the Restoration & Renovation category. This project is an intervention that returns to the original expression that saw our company specialized in structural steel engineering and construction, bysteel, unite with the mastery of architect Nuno Capa.
Second edition of the Philosophy Course
We started the second Graduate Program in Philosophy, dedicated exclusively to our employees. A partnership with the Catholic University, in which attention will be given to the thinkers of the new century and several essential topics of today will be debated.
The K2D is on the bottom of the ocean
We installed the first prototype of the K2D project in the Free Technological Zone of Tróia. This prototype will test the concept of the project that aims to develop an environment monitoring system for the oceans. It was submerged for a few weeks to analyze its resistance to the harsh underwater conditions.
Smart Studios Asprela | monoblocs
The Smart Studios Asprela modular construction project was a huge challenge, but successfully conquered! Thanks to the adaptation of the architectural project, with the work already in progress, for the monobloc construction of 221 bathrooms, we were able to meet the contract completion deadline, as well as to optimize the fixed cost and reduce waste.
Masters
Our commitment to free training for our workers was reinforced with new professional master's degrees, in various areas, in partnership with the IPCA.
Winner of the IV dstangola/Camões Literature Prize
The Angolan writer Boaventura Cardoso is the grand winner of the 4th edition of the dstangola/Camões Literature Prize, with the work “Margens e Travessias”, published in 2021. In the words of the jury, the author «resorts to the same methods that made him one of the best prose writers in the history of Angolan literature».
Zet Gate
Margarita Alferova, one of the Ukrainian artists-in-residence at our art gallery, zet gallery, was challenged to paint the door of the studio space of the five Ukrainian scholarship holders that we jointly hosted. "Porta da Liberdade", accompanied by one of the most famous quotes by the Ukrainian writer Clarice Lispector, "Liberty is little”. What I desire is still unnamed.", was the work that responded to the challenge.
Inauguration of UM auditorium
The School of Economics and Management (EEG) gained a new auditorium, the «Auditório dst», the result of a protocol signed with the University of Minho. Within the scope of this protocol, 25 of our senior staff took a postgraduate course in management at this same institution.
Nada Será como Dante Program
We were honored to be part of the last episode of the show Nada Será Como Dante, by Filipa Leal and Pedro Lamares. In a program dedicated to literature, the focus was on our organizational culture, which is centered precisely on encouraging reading and arts literacy.
UM and bysteel joint training
Our company, bysteel, launched a “Specialized Training course in Building Facade and Envelop Technology”, together with the UMinho Postgraduate Alliance. It is aimed at professionals in the sector, holders of a bachelor's degree in the areas of Architecture and Civil Engineering (or similar).
At the start of 2022 we will implement a measure that means that none of our workers will receive less than €740, as opposed to the national minimum wage of around €705 by law, thus combating job insecurity and contributing to compliance with European guidelines on working conditions and social dignity.
João Luís Barreto Guimarães was the winner of the 27th edition of the dst Literature Grand Prize with his poetic work "Movimento" (movement), in an edition that registered a new record of candidates. The award ceremony took place on July 2nd at Theatro Circo with a performance by Milton Nascimento.
We are building a Living Lab with Norman Foster's signature, within the framework of modular construction, which will have 100 habitable modules that will be tested on various levels of sustainability. It is a privilege for us to establish this partnership which we are sure will shape the future of construction. We are committed and have the unmeasured ambition to make this Living Lab a world reference project.
As part of the celebrations on June 10, we had the honor of receiving, in our premises, the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, for a meeting with businessmen from Braga and for the inauguration of the installation in memory of Child Labor, by José Pedro Croft.
In the first half of 2022, we concluded some flagship projects. The new headquarters of Miniclip, in Taguspark, with four thousand square meters; the transformation of the Gouvães quarry, an unprecedented project in Portugal and a reference in Europe, in an investment of more than one million euros; and Labelec, the new EDP laboratory building in Lisbon, for the modernization of research infrastructures.
We have granted sixteen artistic grants to Ukrainian refugees. Ten were awarded to theater professionals, who will be supported by the Braga Theater Company, and six to artists who will be supported by our art gallery, the zet gallery.
The second edition of the ART IN PUBLIC SPACE & SUSTAINABILITY award is back, the only one in Portugal that combines art, sustainability and innovation. In partnership with our art gallery, the zet gallery, and with the support of the IB-s of the University of Minho, this prize challenges artists to create a work of art for the public space of Braga, from industrial waste from our complex.
The SmartGlow innovation project, led by our company dstsolar, which also includes the participation of innovationpoint and dstelecom, was highlighted in Contact magazine, from the SKA Observatory. The article salutes the innovative character of the project which aims to develop a solution to solve the problems of electromagnetic interference caused by photovoltaic installations in space surveillance equipment.
Innovation is one of the pillars of our growth and development strategy, so all our workers are called upon to innovate on a daily basis. By the end of 2021, we counted more than 750 ideas submitted, more than 300 ideas implemented and more than 90 innovation projects underway.
The pandemic boosted the consumption of fibre optics, which made this business area grow exponentially. This allowed fibre t, our company specialised in the installation of infrastructures (underground and aerial) of the fixed network, associated to FTTH networks, to triple its turnover compared to the previous year.
We were partners in a unique event that aimed to analyse the impact of the "Porto Social Summit". In it, we call for action that companies must take on the three fundamental pillars of the resolutions of this summit: employability, continuous training of citizens and the eradication of poverty.
Another award was won for one of our works. The new PHC Software headquarters, located in the Taguspark science and technology business park, was distinguished in the Architecture MasterPrize 2021, in the Interior Design/Workplaces category.
We have developed a platform certified by the Portuguese Environment Agency that enables us to respond to the internal need to monitor the types of waste produced at our building sites and enable the issuing of guides and the analysis of the information contained in the e-GAR expeditiously.
Also, our company dstsolar is leading another ID&T project on off-grid power management systems for application in space observation stations. The solution to be developed will be tested and implemented on the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), an ambitious scientific project that will make up the world's largest radio telescope. SmartGlow will run until 2023 and has an investment of around two million euros.
dstelecom, our telecommunications company, has begun leading a research project, Netedge, related to the development of fibre optic networks, to improve response times and save bandwidth.
The Urbo Business Centre, a real estate project promoted by our company dstrealestate, was again distinguished, this time with the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) Certification, with the classification "Good", in the Offices "New Construction" category. It is the first office building in Portugal to obtain this classification.
III edition of the dstangola/Camões Literature Prize
Benjamim M'Bakassy was the big winner of the third edition of the dstangola/Camões Literature Prize with his debut work, "Eutópsia eutopia virada do eu-verso". The prize, worth 15,000 euros, was awarded on July, at the Camões Cultural Centre in Luanda.
XXVI dst Literature Grand Prize
The novel "Livro de Vozes e Sombras" won the 26th dst Literature Grand Prize, for the writer João Melo. The prize was delivered at Theatro Circo, as usual, as part of the programme of the Braga Book Fair.
We are the promoters of yet another unprecedented initiative in Portugal, through the work of our art gallery, the zet gallery. “Braga em Obras” counted on a rigorous work of signalling more than 101 cultural manifestations, spread over the municipality that Braga, which are now also documented and inventoried in a book.
Mosaic, which is our Innovation Hub created with the aim of addressing the smart cities market in an integrated way, is coordinating, in partnership with several group companies, the implementation of innovative technological solutions in living labs in Lisbon, Loures, Sintra and Gaia.
Our company dstsolar is the promoter of a research project, "Baterias 2030", which aims to create alternative ways of generating, storing, and distributing electrical energy. For this purpose, a live laboratory will be built in Braga city centre, with the support of the municipality, to demonstrate how batteries will be decisive in the near future electric grids, particularly in the most densely populated areas.
We were the main sponsor of the fib Symposium 2021 in Lisbon, which brought together professionals, researchers, and students from all over the world with the purpose of addressing new trends for eco-efficiency and performance of concrete structures.
We were at the Battery Summit, promoted by INL, to discuss how batteries will promote competitive sustainability and reflect on their need for green transport, clean energy, and the achievement of climate neutrality by 2050. We also marked our presence in the virtual conference EuroNanoForum, the most important European event in the field of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials.
New logistics unit in Seixal
We are building our own new logistics unit in Seixal, in an area of 13 hectares, which includes three pavilions with around 7000m2 each, a living base with capacity for 140 rooms, a sports complex and a green area for the use of our workers. This unit will be a kind of replica of our complex based in Braga, which will support projects centred in the centre/south of the country.
Bysteel and bysteel fs were involved in yet another iconic and stunning project. This is the latest creation by award-winning architect Richard Rogers, The Richard Rogers Drawing Gallery, his suspended gallery, over the vineyards of Château La Coste, France. While bysteel was responsible for the construction of the metallic superstructure, which is projected 30m over the vineyards, bysteel FS dressed the building with an architectural envelope that fluidly expresses itself, in this monolith floating in perfect balance.
AddVolt, one of our participated companies, has been distinguished in the Top 10 of European Sustainable Mobility Startups in the framework of the "European Startup Prize for Mobility" initiative.
We have again received the OBCIG Award for Integrative Companies, an initiative created in 2019 by the Observatory of Gypsy Communities to recognise our important role in the labour integration of Gypsy people. We took the opportunity to sign three protocols that will allow us to award 21 scholarships to young people from this community.
We are the promoters of a pilot programme that will welcome and train young people from the refugee camp in Greece, integrating them into our companies to develop direct work experience.
Culture on the Couch
During the confinement, we promoted an initiative, "Cultura no Sofá" (Culture on the Couch), aimed at supporting the culture sector. We streamed cultural sessions, online, every Saturday evening, broadcast through our Facebook, to bring culture to the sofa, to the comfort of the home of all those who followed us.
Clarisse & Leopoldo
In 2021 we launched two strong personalities who have become present in our organisational dynamics, on several occasions, with an active and interventive posture in various areas. Clarisse and Leopoldo are two relevant actors who promised to unsettle our minds, bring countless contributions and questions, and they are succeeding, every Thursday, on our social networks and in regional newspapers.
In 2020, in our works, we sent about 99% of the waste produced for recovery/recycling, thus contributing to the reduction of its landfill.
Pepetela was the big winner of the 2nd edition of our Literature Award dstangola/Camões, with her most recent novel “Sua Excellence, de Corpo Presente”.
In 2020, our complex was featured in the Architecture MasterPrize 2020. The chapel, installed in the Garden Teresa Gonçalves Gomes, which incorporates the Meditation Spot, won in the Small Architecture category, while our bysteel fs factory was distinguished in the Industrial Buildings category. Both projects were designed by the architect Nuno Capa.
bysteel was one of the winners of the 10th edition of the Export & Internationalization Awards, which aim is to reward and promote the success of national companies, in the category Export + Employment.
In line with our innovation objectives, we won the approval of five research and development projects supported by European funds, in a global investment that amounts to 18 million euros, 2.7 million of which we assumed. Centralized in three main areas - circular economy, energy, and sea & space-, these projects are also aligned with seven UN Sustainable Development Goals.
We competed with an innovative project, CirMat, for the competition to promote the circular economy in construction, under the EEA Grants Ambiente program and we won! Our project was selected by the Ministry of the Environment and will be implemented over the next two years. The project will be coordinated together with two Portuguese partners, the University of Minho and the Higher Technical Institute, and a Norwegian partner, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
dte was selected by Eiffage Construction, one of the largest French companies in the field of civil construction and public works, to participate in a pilot and innovative urban renewal project, dedicated to sustainable agriculture, the “Tour Maraîchère”.
In the second half of 2020, we won important and challenging projects, under the charge of our construction company dst. We refer to the new EDP Headquarters in Lisbon; also, the new production building for Olympus, in Coimbra; the new Miniclip headquarters at Taguspark, in Oeiras; and the first Mercadona supermarket of the Alto Minho, in Viana do Castelo.
This year, although at a distance, we maintained our usual cycle of innovation talks, centred on the Architecture, Aesthetics and Happiness trilogy. In the first session we received Maestro António Victorino de Almeida, followed by Pedro Abrunhosa and we concluded with Adriana Calcanhotto.
We were invited by the FTTH Council Europe to participate in the FTTH 'virtual' conference 2020 which brought together a set of international experts, from different areas, to address the issues and challenges of investing in fibre optics, particularly in rural areas.
We received a visit from the Iranian ambassador, Morteza Damanpak Jami, to our bysteel factory, with the aim of promoting the diplomatic body's contact with the reality of Braga as a strategic vector for promoting the city and its assets.
The qualified and specialized training of our workers is one of our central areas of work, concern, and investment. In this sense, in 2020, we launched two human and complementary training courses for our workers, one in the area of Philosophy and the other in Neuroscience.
In 2020, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the dst Literature Grand Prize, which had as the winner, the poet and essayist, Fernando Guimarães, with his work "Junto à Pedra".

We partner with a worldwide initiative, Plastic Free July, which aims to reduce plastic waste around the world, creating a movement to share tips on reducing plastic consumption in the different environments we deal with in our daily lives: home, work, supermarket and events.
The "Fridays with Lunch" initiative emerged at the beginning of this pandemic with the objective of, in a symbolic act, paying homage to all our employers who were still working at the offices and on the construction sites. They consisted of offering reinforced and special meals, once a week. On the construction sites, the plafond was duplicated, and several national and international chefs were invited to the offices, some of them Michelin star chefs, to prepare multicultural and haute cuisine meals.
We added dozens of hotel units to our portfolio and won three more in the first semester of this year alone. We are converting the current Sana Lisboa hotel into a new five-star reference, we are going to rehabilitate a century-old property in Lisbon that will give rise to the Hotel dos Reis and, finally, we are in charge of the construction of the Stay Hotel Lisboa Aeroporto. Several group companies are involved in these projects.
bysteel won another project in the United Kingdom. After the Queen Mary University and the University of Reading, it is now time to leave its mark at the University of Cambridge, in a project of around 4.5 million euros.
dst and dte are involved in the construction project of the Tâmega’s Electro-producing System and its Control Building which will comprise an office and service structure that will support one of the largest hydroelectric projects in Europe of the last 25 years.
Every day and at every initiative we strive for the differentiation and irreverence. This International Women's Day was no exception. We have built a space specially dedicated to our Women in the dressing rooms of bysteel fs. As homage, this is how we celebrated this day of struggle for the freedom and for the equity of women’s rights.
We received the visit from 20 students of the European Master‘s Degree in BIM, resulting from a consortium of three universities: the University of Minho, the University of Ljubljana and the Politecnico di Milano. The purpose was to show the maturity of the dstgroup in the implementation of the BIM methodology, with the presentation of practical cases.
dstsolar oversees the construction of five photovoltaic plants for JOM, in addition to the three photovoltaic projects already developed.
At the beginning of the year, in partnership with zet gallery, we launched the ART IN PUBLIC SPACE & SUSTAINABILITY AWARD, which is supported by the IB-S of the University of Minho. The objective is to challenge artists to create artworks from industrial waste. The first edition of the award had 25 national and international applications, coming from the most diverse geographies, including Brazil and Chile, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, or Spain. The winning artwork, "Refúgio" (Haven), a habitable sculpture by the Italian Lorenzo Bordonaro, was implemented in the municipality of Braga.
The Urbo Business Centre building, located in Matosinhos, was distinguished in the first edition of the Expresso and SIC Notícias Real Estate Awards in the best development category in the office area.

dstelecom ended 2019 with 23 thousand kilometres of fibre installed, covering 400 thousand homes in 100 municipalities, in a total of 120 thousand families connected.
In 2019, dstsolar completed the construction of the Cuba’s Photovoltaic Plant, in Beja, for EDIA, with a total value of 1,055,646 euros. This project was the first 1MW facility on a floating structure in a pumping station built in Portugal.
The Longchamp Racecourse, a project in France which is the responsibility of bysteel, was distinguished as the best project at the Portugal Steel Design Awards, which allowed us to represent Portugal at the European awards. In Brussels, we received the Merit Award and the Audience Award of the European Steel Design Awards, the most important competition in the steel sector.
The project is based on four core pillars: sustainability, territory, people and art. Throughout the months of the project’s duration, two works of art were inaugurated - “octo_ _ _ _” and “Padrão do Mar”, which are part of the urban art roadmap integrated in the project.
The Esposende Municipality launched a project to adhere to the smart cities concept, whose implementation in its technological, sensing and art components is being supported by mosaic, the brand of our Research and Development company, innovationpoint, focused on the development of solutions for smart cities, and by zet gallery, the group's art gallery.
We were the patrons of DOBRA, the first Braga Documentary Film Festival, which resulted from synergies between various institutions and which stood out for its predominantly pedagogical nature. DOBRA took place on 25 and 26 November and was an initiative promoted by the National Cinema Plan team of the Agrupamento de Escolas Carlos Amarante (Carlos Amarante School Group) (PNC-AECA), in collaboration with Espaço Vita and comprised the Porto/Post/Doc program.
bysteel fs is starting to take its first steps, but with great attention from the market. It was in Paris that it started to leave its mark. As a homage to impressionism, the architect Jacques Ferrier was inspired by the painting “Londres, le Parlement. Trouée de soleil dans le brouillard”, by Claude Monet, to design a facade for this project that, together with the coloured plates system installed, recreated this famous work of art.
Our workers’ qualified and specialized training is one of our core axes of work, concern and investment. In this sense, we promote two specialization courses for our workers, one in Management at the University of Minho and the other in Human Training for Senior Management at the Braga Catholic University.
With the expansion works of Schiphol airport still in progress, bysteel remains at the forefront of the aviation industry. It is now building what will be one of the first remote air control towers in the world and the first in the United Kingdom, at London City Airport.

At international level, it won the award in the Architectural Design/Commercial Architecture category at the Architecture MasterPrize 2019, one of the most important international awards in the field of Architecture. Finally, it was also a feature theme in one of the most emblematic international magazines in the field of design and architecture, Wallpaper*.
Laying of the first stone of the works contract for the Interception and Diversion System of the Esposende Urban Area, within the scope of Protection and Risk Management and Floods in the Esposende Municipality. The naturalization of the future interception system channel will be composed of an extraordinary natural engineering work that will solve the flood problem and will be supplemented by a pedestrian path along its entire length.
Lídia Jorge was awarded the dst Grand Prize for Literature (24th edition) for her work “Estuário”. The award ceremony took place, as usual, at Theatro Circo and marked the opening of the Braga Book Fair.
The First edition of the dstangola/Camões Prize for Literature distinguished the poet Zetho Cunha Gonçalves for his work “Noite Vertical”. The award ceremony took place on 10 June, in Luanda, as part of the celebrations of the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities.
Located in the sustainable block of Pointe de Trivaux, in Paris, the bold and unique Meudon sports complex is yet another project with an integrated solution signed by bysteel and bysteel fs. Underneath an 11-a-side football pitch, there are a gym, a climbing Wall, paddle and squash courts and an ice-skating rink with 2.5 m high metal beams and an impressive 45 m span.
We had the privilege of welcoming Mercedes Valdés, the Cuban Ambassador, who was interest in learning about the group’s activity in the field of engineering and construction. Despite that, she was also surprised and curious about our work in the fields of telecommunications and renewable energy.
The French giant Eiffage awarded dte, dstgroup’s special facilities company, the reconstruction of a house in the French capital that receives young people facing adverse situations, a contract that is worth 7.2 million Euros.
We were present at the National Award for Urban Rehabilitation gala during which we saw our work Bela da Rainha, a building in Rua da Prata, receiving an Honourable Mention as a finalist in the Best Structural Rehabilitation category of the 2019 edition.
We were proud to receive the “OBCIG Empresas Integradoras” (Integrating Companies OBCIG) award promoted by the Observatório das Comunidades Ciganas (Oservatory of Roma Communities). According to the Secretary of State, this honour is due to our values and the "practices of labour integration of Romani people”, since we have already created "effective job opportunities for, at least, 38 Romani people through programs such as the social-cultural mediators under the ROMED, the municipal mediation program or the Programa Escolhas (Choices Program)".
Prime Minister António Costa visited the dstgroup for the opening of the bysteel fs industrial unit. The new factory represented an investment of 16 million Euros and allowed for the creation of more than 200 jobs and is dedicated to the design, engineering and production of architectural façades and building envelopes. In 2021, it expects to generate revenue in the amount of 45 million Euros.
In addition to the dst Grand Prize for Literature, which has been awarded for 24 years, we are promoting, in partnership with Instituto Camões, another annual literary prize, in the amount of 15 thousand Euros, which is aimed at distinguishing poetry and prose works by Angolan writers. The prize will be awarded in June, in Luanda. The presentation event of the dstangola/Camões Prize for Literature, was held at the Auditorium of Camões — Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua (Camões Institute for Cooperation and Language) also included the signing ceremony of the protocol of Company Promoter of Portuguese Language between Camões, I.P. and dstgroup.
The Tour Trinity work in Paris was responsible for giving a second life to the project’s remaining materials, which were reused by Miguel Neves Oliveira, a Portuguese artist from zet gallery, for the creation of two works of art. The two sculptures are now in Portuguese territory and their exhibition has already been inaugurated.
We signed a protocol with IPCA, Instituto Politécnico Cávado (Cávado Politechnic Institute), which is aimed at encouraging applied research activities and offering practical training in the group and, together with Universidade Católica de Braga (Braga Catholic University), we launched a postgraduate course in “Human Training for Senior Executives”, whose objective is to prepare our engineers to become more competent, human and righteous professionals.

At the invitation of the European Commission and the Guimarães Municipality, we were the only Portuguese business group invited to participate in the 3rd Digital Cities Challenge Academy Workshop, held in Thessaloniki, in Greece, to present its expert vision for the digital transformation of cities. In this context, we also held our second session of the innovation talks cycle welcoming Vítor Pereira, an expert on smart cities.
We were awarded the Fleet Magazine Fleet Manager Prize for our CarSharing dst project. As the jury mentioned, this award is due to the fact that this is "an innovative project, well designed and with the particularity that it can reflect positively on the vehicles’ users”.
bysteel, a dstgroup’s metalworking company, won the contract for the construction of the new pier at Schiphol Airport, in Amsterdam. Valued at 20 million Euros, this is the first work by bysteel in The Netherlands and its largest contract to date in terms of metal structures.

We promoted the Symposium “Arte e Sustentabilidade” (Art and Sustainability) that took place in Braga streets with the objective of showing the close connection between Contemporary Art, Sustainability and Circular Economy. We also inaugurated a new public work of art, “Teresa Walking”, by Julian Opie, the prestigious British artist, given to Braga Municipality. This work of art is on display in the outdoor area of the Altice Forum Braga. The initiatives were supported by zet gallery, the dstgroup’s contemporary art space.
