The dst Great Literature Award is back this year to distinguish works of prose from Portuguese authors, published between 2017 and 2018. Established for nearly 25 years, the dst Great Literature Award is already one of Portugal’s most important distinctions in literature, with a predominant role in stimulating the national literary production, namely of Portuguese authors residing in Portugal. The deadline for submissions to the 24th Edition of the dst Great Literature Award is until 29 March. The winner will receive a cash prize of €15,000.
The jury is composed of leading figures of the Portuguese literary scene, who have collaborated with the dst group since the creation of the award. Vítor Manuel Silva, José Manuel Mendes, and Carlos Mendes de Sousa are the three members of the jury who will analyse, select and justify the awarded work, which will be publicly announced on 28 June, within the inauguration of the Braga Book Fair. The first selection stage will take place until 25 May, when the final five poetry books will be chosen.
It is worth recalling that the dst Great Literature Prize alternately awards works of poetry and prose. Manuel Alegre was the winner of the 2016 edition with his work “Bairro Ocidental”, succeeding Luísa Costa Gomes, Mário de Carvalho, Maria Ondina Braga, and Jacinto Lucas Pires. Daniel Jonas was the award winner of the 2018 edition, with the poetry book “Oblívio”.
