Rigor. (from the lat. rigore) n. 1. harshness; strength; 2.fig., severity; punctuality; accuracy.

There is no "more or less levelled", "more or less upright”, "more or less clean" or "more or less safe", but rather “levelled”, "upright”, "clean” and “safe". The rigour is reflected in our procedures, in time and in the rules to follow. In the light of moral and principles, being severe means being rigorous.

Passion. (from the lat. passione) n. 1. intense and usually violent feeling (affection, joy, hate, etc.) which hinders the exercise of impartial logic; 2. derived from a feeling; 3. great predilection; 4. partiality; 5. great grief; immense suffering...

Under the sign of passion – a text of the Portuguese poet Regina Guimarães – is our icon. Passion is to reveal great enthusiasm for something, favourable encouragement or opposite to something.
It is the sensibility transmitted by an architect or engineer through work.
Passion is the dedication to a project. Passion is a state of warm soul.

Solidarity. (from the lat. solidare) n. 1. the quality of being solidary; 2. reciprocal responsibility among the members of a group, namely social, professional, etc.; 3. sense of sharing another’s suffering.

Being solidary is being a friend, offering our hand with genuine generosity and bringing joy and human warmth to those who, somehow, are marginalized. Being solidary is being more human. A solidary company is recognized as a fair and non-selfish company. A solidary company is a preferred choice in business. It is a more competitive company. Volunteering is a vehicle to solidarity. It is modern, fair, cultured, friend, it is a noble gesture of moral elevation.

Courage. (from the lat. coraticum) n. 1. bravery facing danger; intrepidity; to have audacity; 2. moral force before a suffering or setback; 3. [fig.] to input energy when performing a difficult task; perseverance...

Courage is essential in our life. Courage to face less pleasant situations when complex issues come up, not expecting random resolutions.
It is a value that we must highlight as opposed to the fearful, cowardly and laziness.
The courage to react to criticism not with an attitude of demotivation or sadness, but rather to search for the means and the action to overcome its own reason. This kind of courage, which is also an intellectual courage, is highly recommended.

Responsibility. (from the lat respondere) n. the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct; a form of trustworthiness.

We must be certain that, before a choice, we chose what is best for both of us and not just the best for each one. Each employee is responsible for his negotiated activity and co-responsible if the co-worker does not fulfil his own task, thus preventing the common goal. A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.

Book Fair 'had added quality'

Braga's culture councillor said this year's Book Fair had "an added quality, because of the presence of better-known Portuguese writers and its cultural, musical and exhibition programme", that was held alongside the main event. The booksellers' opinions are divided, but they say that the fair should "be the centre to meet people", the councillor only accepts changing the venue "if everyone agrees".

Lídia Dias wants to leave an overall assessment until she has heard from all the booksellers and publishers, but stresses that "many changes were made" this year "that the participants suggested in terms of the opening hours and the programme", so she is "open to suggestions that contribute towards constant improvement" of the Braga Book Fair.

At the moment, "the feedback we have is positive and that this was a good fair that tried to attract different audiences to extend its appeal and bring new people into the city centre so the Book Fair would have good results, better and better for the booksellers and the publishers who are here", she said.

Helena Veloso, from Centésima Página bookshop, told the Diário do Minho newspaper she did not yet have “the final results”, but believed that “people still buy books. We had a lot of work and we think the balance was more positive than in previous editions. We have the sensation that there was an improvement in the quality of the programme with greater care and well-known authors with quite busy sessions", she said, adding that "the musical programme 'Tell me stories...' with music most people knew was also an innovative format that was quite surprising".

António Correia, from Livraria Minho was also up-beat, saying there was "a positive balance and more sales than last year, although it was nothing extraordinary. On rainy days, there was almost nobody here, and when it was very hot there were also fewer people, but at night there were crowds and that was also when there was more musical entertainment, which attracted more people", he said.

On the other hand, João Fontes, from Europa-América, who was in the Avenue for the first time, said the experience was very negative for business. "Before, I participated when it was in the Exhibition Park and there we had few people but good customers because they were clearly interested in the books. here the business is going very badly, mainly because I expected to find the "fair customers" and those just passing through, but those who pass through pay no attention and the ones from the "fair" don't appear. The parallel programme attracted the public, but not the fair public", he added.

Mário Cláudio wins dst Literary Award

Annual award of €15,000 distinguishes his work “Astronomia”

Mário Cláudio was at the Braga Book Fair yesterday, where we received the dst Grand Literature Award, which rewards the best literature in Portugal every year.

“Astronomia”, a 2015 novel, conquered the jury unanimously because of the exceptional quality of the narrative" where harmony prevails "in a fabric where times are established, talk to one another and are reconstituted".

They are times that portray the different phases in the author's life - childhood, maturity and old-age, in an autobiography that reflect a fanciful vision of Mário Cláudio about his path. At the award ceremony on the last day of the Fair, Vítor Aguiar e Silva described "Astronomia" as "a masterpiece of Portuguese literature" and that the author "has reached the pinnacle of his literary career".

The dst group has invested more than three decades in culture and it has been awarding this literary prize, worth €15,000, for more than 20 years as part of its role as a patron of the arts. "Patronage is rare and must be underscored. I congratulate the dst group for the contribution and affection it has given to culture over many years, as it is a company that stands out from all the others", Mário Cláudio said.
