Now in its eighth edition, the Philosophy course developed in partnership with Universidade Católica Portuguesa and exclusive to DST aims to stimulate critical thinking among more than 700 employees.
For the eighth consecutive year, DST will promote a Philosophy course for its employees, continuing a project developed in partnership with the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP), in Braga, which brings philosophical thinking into the company and reflects a training vision that goes beyond strictly technical skills.
With more than 700 employees covered in the second year of the fourth Study Cycle, the initiative aims to stimulate critical thinking, the ability to question and individual freedom, placing knowledge, human development and the pursuit of a good life at the centre of the group's organisational culture.
The programme covers areas such as logic, aesthetics, philosophy of religion, contemporary thought, anthropology, metaphysics, politics, economics and art, providing workers with different tools to interpret the world, understand society and develop a more critical and plural view of contemporary challenges.
This investment stems from a broader conception of training in companies. For DST, qualifying workers does not simply mean developing technical skills directly related to professional activity, but investing in the holistic development of people, stimulating curiosity, intellectual autonomy, sensitivity and the ability to think and decide freely and consciously.
Developed since 2020 in partnership with Universidade Católica Portuguesa, the project has seen growing participation among employees. Around 500 people took part in the latest edition, 50% more than in the previous cycle, showing internal interest in training that introduces subjects traditionally outside professional qualification programmes into everyday business life.
'When we work with concrete things, we tend to look for certainty. This immersion in Philosophy, in its thinkers, schools of thought and controversies, challenges us to question our deepest convictions, to become aware of the boundlessness of reflection and of the fact that it is rarely possible to reach absolute consensus. Confronting our own biases, more than cognitive discomfort, creates within us an expanded empathy, capable of making us understand and accept perspectives and worldviews radically different from our own,' emphasises Aníbal Cardona, senior occupational health and safety officer at the group.
Philosophy is part of a broader training strategy that DST has been developing for its employees. Neuroscience, first aid for mental illness, art, theatre and creative cooking are some of the areas included in an offering that brings together scientific knowledge, culture, creativity and personal development.
In a business context increasingly marked by technology, automation and the rapid transformation of professions, the group continues to invest in what remains essentially human: the ability to think, question, interpret, create and make decisions. A training policy that places people's development at the centre of the organisation's competitiveness and future.
