Rigor. (from the lat. rigore) n. 1. harshness; strength; 2.fig., severity; punctuality; accuracy.

There is no "more or less levelled", "more or less upright”, "more or less clean" or "more or less safe", but rather “levelled”, "upright”, "clean” and “safe". The rigour is reflected in our procedures, in time and in the rules to follow. In the light of moral and principles, being severe means being rigorous.

The courage to react to criticism not with an attitude of demotivation or sadness, but rather to search for the means and the action to overcome its own reason. This kind of courage, which is also an intellectual courage, is highly recommended.

Responsibility. (from the lat respondere) n. the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct; a form of trustworthiness.

We must be certain that, before a choice, we chose what is best for both of us and not just the best for each one. Each employee is responsible for his negotiated activity and co-responsible if the co-worker does not fulfil his own task, thus preventing the common goal. A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.

Bysteel wins the European Steel Design Award 2025 with The Emory Hotel

The Portuguese company bysteel, part of the dstgroup, has won this international award for the third time. It previously did so in 2017 with the MAAT project in Lisbon and in 2019 with Paris Longchamp. The 1600-tonne steel building with its 4900 m2 modular façade is noteworthy for the stainless-steel pendulums that support the upper floors.

bysteel, a dstgroup company specialising in highly complex metallic structures and advanced engineering solutions, has just been awarded the European Steel Design Award 2025 for its leading role in the design and structural execution of The Emory Hotel in London, one of the most challenging and sophisticated projects in contemporary architecture.

The distinction, awarded by the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork, ECCS, recognises the Portuguese company’s exceptional contribution to the execution of the metallic structure, connection design and façade systems that define the building’s architectural identity.

Inaugurated in April 2024, The Emory Hotel has become a benchmark in luxury hospitality and European architecture. Located in Knightsbridge, The Emory Hotel was designed by RSHP (Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners) and forms part of The Berkeley Hotel complex. bysteel brought to life RSHP’s high-tech vision, where structural design is transformed into a statement aesthetic expression.

The building, consisting of 1600 tonnes of steel and a 4900 m2 modular façade, is noteworthy for its stainless steel pendulums that support the upper floors and free the ground floor from pillars, creating a fluid and transparent space. Its iconic “Crown”, an exposed transfer structure at the top, acts as both a sculptural and functional element, redistributing loads and endowing the building with its distinctive silhouette.

“Winning this award is a milestone that honours not only bysteel, but also the talent and dedication of our teams. The Emory demonstrates that Portuguese engineering is ready to lead world-class projects,” stated Rodrigo Araújo, Managing Director of bysteel.

The execution of the work required extreme technical precision. Located just a few metres from London Underground tunnels, the project included acoustic spring solutions and bysteel studied and implemented a construction process with synchronised tensioning to guarantee stability, efficiency and millimetric precision at every stage of construction.

“It is within the demanding standards of practices such as RSHP that bysteel thrives. Every welding and fabrication detail was studied, tested and refined to achieve the aesthetic objectives of The Emory. This award recognises the precision, dedication and excellence of our entire team”, emphasized Ricardo Portela, Industrial Director at bysteel.

With this distinction, bysteel has now won three European Steel Design awards — MAAT (Lisbon, 2017), Paris Longchamp (2019) and now The Emory Hotel (London, 2025).

For the dstgroup, this international recognition strengthens bysteel’s position as a global strategic partner, capable of combining innovation, technical rigour and sustainability. “The Emory Hotel is more than just a building: it is a demonstration of how engineering and architecture can converge in an act of artistic creation, transforming London’s urban landscape and showcasing Portuguese talent to the world.”
