In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.
The dst International Emerging Artists - Photography Award returns with a cash prize of 7,500 euros, making it one of the most important photography awards attributed in Portugal. The winner of this year’s award will be revealed on 20 September, at a gala held in Theatro Circo, in Braga, accompanied by a Scott Matthew concert. This will also be an opportunity to see the work produced by the finalists in a multi-media slide show, accompanied by the acoustic solo guitar project “Filho da Mãe”.
This dst group event, part of the International Photography Festival of Meeting Images, awards the best work of contemporary photography, and is an excellent platform for artists to get fully justified feedback on their work, which may eventually open doors to other exhibitions or publications. The photographs of the twenty finalists selected by the jury will be exhibited during the dst Emerging Artists award ceremony, and the winner’s portfolio will be displayed in the official section of Meeting Images 2015. In previous competitions there were hundreds of candidates and it is hoped that this year there will be a record number of entries, opening the way to making this competition a fixture among national and foreign cultural events.
José Teixeira, Chairman of the Board of Directors of dst group, assumes the company’s ambition to consolidate the international dimension of the dst Emerging Artists photography award, emphasising that the company’s culture “rests on defending and promoting humanist values, and with this in mind we assume the commitment to play an active role in recognising the merit of those who show artistic and cultural talent. It is because we believe in these values, and cultivate them constantly, that we undersign ourselves as «building culture»”.
Gala concert with Scott Matthew
Scott Matthew will perform at the award ceremony, an Australian musician part of the alternative pop band Elva Snow, beginning his career in 2006 as a solo artist already with three albums released. Born in Queensland, Scott Matthew played in several punk bands in Brisbane, before moving to Australia’s biggest city, Sidney, where he created the Nicotine. In 1997, he decided to move to New York, where he joined the Elva Snow line-up, alongside Spencer Cobrin, a musician who for many years accompanied Morrissey. You can enjoy his solo work live on 20 September in Braga.

Meeting Images: Where is my mind?
Having existed for 27 years, Meeting Images holds its twenty fourth event in 2014, part of a Faith and Hope approach. According to Ângela Ferreira, artistic director of Meeting Images, “at a time when contemporary society is going through a crisis of values, it was thought the right time to reflect on this theme, the slogan of which is provided by the alternative rock band, the Pixies: «Where is my mind?»”. The festival, that originated in Braga, offers several activities to promote contemporary photography in an exhibition centre, which in this event is echoed by exhibitions in Porto and Lisbon.
