A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.

Diário do Minho
Yesterday, the Minister of Culture presented the 2025 dst Grand Prize for Literature to Luísa Costa Gomes, for her book “Visting friends and other short stories” (Visitar Amigos e outros contos). At the festive ceremony, which took place at the Theatro Circo in Braga, at the end of a 30-hour cultural marathon, the speakers argued that the dst Grand Prize for Literature, now in its 30th year, honours and promotes Braga at a national level, leaving a lasting cultural and artistic mark on the municipality.
The main concert hall in Braga and the region was once again filled with culture and literature enthusiasts, as well as various invited guests, including Margarida Balseiro Lopes, the new Minister for Culture, Youth and Sport who, despite already being familiar with the Braga construction company’s commitment, praised the example of dst through an activity that goes far beyond mere corporate social responsibility.
In fact, she admitted, this was the main reason for her attendance at the ceremony.
“My presence here today is also intended to pay tribute to an aspect of culture that is essential, which is the involvement of the private sector, of civil society, a role in cultural policies that is particularly important. We know that the state has an indispensable role to play, but we all benefit, as does the country considerably, if we can have more examples such as that of dst, which in various areas, and as is the case today, particularly in literature, has been able to commit and dedicate itself to rewarding artists, in this case writers, and this year a female writer, over so many years. This is deeply enriching for culture in Braga and for the country.”
In order for more “dsts” to exist, the government has promised to review the cultural patronage law and make it more attractive.
What is more, and to reinforce the importance of culture, Margarida Balseiro Lopes recalled that in the recently approved programme, there was a 50% increase in the Culture budget.
Luísa Costa Gomes, who won the dst Literature Grand Prize for the second time [she won the 20th edition], said she felt “honoured” by the award. “I feel very good, I feel very happy. I really like this dst award. I think dst is an exemplary company in terms of its cultural and social role.”
Luísa Costa Gomes is “very happy to be part of these celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the dst”, a prize that honours and promotes Braga nationally with its awards to so many Portuguese writers, many of them internationally renowned.
The dst CEO emphasised the importance of literature and the arts
In his own way, José Teixeira once again provided an authentic “catechesis” on the general importance of literature, the plastic arts and culture within society.
The dst CEO began by gallantly praising the minister’s presence. “Her coming, her company, with her energy, endows this gala with more light and illuminates the importance of culture and literature in everyone’s life, every day.”
After welcoming the guests, he spoke of his insistence on the value of the arts. “For many years I have been writing and talking about the importance of culture, the liberal arts, humanities, the arts and philosophy, to put it simply, in the competitiveness of countries, companies and families. Competitiveness at work. Productivity at work. Creativity at work. Innovation at work. Because in the part of life that we all have to have, in our time of transformation and renewal, its importance is a matter of survival and of mental health. Without culture, life is impossible”, he emphasised.
José Teixeira believes that literature is the shortest and fastest route to freedom. “Without literature, knowledge is banished or restricted to the multiplication table of life”, agreeing with Vítor Hugo when he writes that the deprivation of knowledge “is more damaging to humanity than misery.”
After the speeches, the audience enjoyed a concert by the Cape Verdean singer Mayra Andrade, who revisited her album “reEncanto”. A warm sweet voice that enchanted the audience.
