The dstgroup and the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA) are launching a new edition of Vocational Higher Technical Courses designed to meet the needs of the sector. The group is also preparing to launch a language learning platform for its employees.
The dstgroup, in partnership with the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA), is strengthening its investment in promoting Vocational Higher Technical Courses (CTeSP). This project, now with several editions in different areas, aims to bridge the gap between education and the labour market, ensuring a highly qualified and specialised workforce in strategic sectors of the economy.
Lasting two years - three semesters of theoretical and practical classes, followed by a semester of curricular internship (Workplace Training), the CTeSP courses offers short, practical training that is highly orientated towards market needs.
“The Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA) has been committed to offering Vocational Higher Technical Courses (CTeSPs) since their creation in 2014, believing them to be of considerable importance for the region, especially since the creation of places for these courses required agreements for internships with host organisations, thus ensuring student engagement with the labour market. It was in this context that IPCA was challenged by the dstgroup to jointly develop a number of CTeSPs with curricula tailored to the needs of different business areas, and sometimes taught by senior dstgroup staff, who have always been committed to developing talent in the region,” stated Maria José Fernandes, the president of IPCA.
Some courses have even been designed based on input provided by the dstgroup and include employees from the group’s companies as instructors, ensuring a direct link between academia and the reality of the sector.
“However, the impact of the increase in higher qualifications extends beyond the dstgroup, as it encourages many other students to participate in higher education to improve their skills, and who often attend courses designed in collaboration with the dstgroup. It has also sparked interest among other companies in the region to connect with academia, and IPCA in particular, to replicate the success of the partnership with the dstgroup,” she added.
Currently the dstgroup, in collaboration with the IPCA, is offering courses such as Site Preparation and Management (3rd edition), Advanced Network and Telecommunications Management (3rd edition, dstelecom), Advanced Welding (7th edition, bysteel), Preparation and Manufacture of Modular Structures (3rd edition, bysteel) and Management Support (the latter is already underway, with group employees).
Enrolment is now underway for young people who have completed the 12th grade, adults seeking a career change and dstgroup employees wishing to update or deepen their skills.
The group finances the enrolment fees for its employees and provides internship opportunities within the organisation, reinforcing its commitment to internal human capital development.
“Workers are more independent the more knowledge they gain. The more independent workers are, the more competitive and understanding they become. Training is in the interests of both employees and the company. A company with employees like these is obliged to be a fair and humanist company,” stated José Teixeira, Chairperson of the dstgroup’s Board of Directors.
With a high employability rate, these courses address shortages of skilled labour in areas critical to the development of the national economy.
In parallel with the CTeSP, the dstgroup is preparing to launch a new language learning platform for all its employees, reinforcing its strategy of ongoing skills development and providing opportunities for personal and professional growth.
