A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.

The metal construction sector has been growing over the last 10 years and currently accounts for 2.4 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In 2024 this sector was worth 6.9 billion euros.
These figures were presented by the president of the Portuguese Metal and Mixed Construction Association (CMM), Luís Simões da Silva, during the 15th Mixed Metal Construction Congress, which took place in parallel with the 1st Façade Engineering Congress, organised by CMM, and for which the Jornal Económico was a media partner.
Luís Simões da Silva highlighted that, despite robust growth in conventional construction, the “metal sector has grown twice as fast, at 25% over the last five years, while construction overall has grown at 13%”.
According to the most recent figures, this sector has seen a 12% increase in market share from 2010 to the present.
In Luís Simões da Silva’s view, these figures show that “solutions using metal construction are meeting market needs and enabling companies to make money.”
As well as recording solid growth, the sector is a “significant exporter nationally”, accounting for 3.3 per cent of exports, equivalent to 2.9 billion euros.
Both large and micro companies are distributed throughout the country, with the sector’s “main productive capacity” located in the north.
Sustainability is a core concern for the sector since steel is often labelled as “environmentally unfriendly”. The sector is developing innovative processes, notably reducing the “2500 kg of CO2 released per tonne of steel produced to 50 kg of CO2 per tonne” by using hydrogen from renewable energy sources.
The President noted that there are “plants under construction, and some already operational, that make it possible to produce 51 million tonnes a year through the direct reduction of hydrogen from renewable sources”. These plants will be in operation by 2030, which “makes it possible to reduce emissions by 38 per cent in Europe, which means that the sector will be able to meet the 50 per cent reduction target by 2030”, he stated.
This year the sector took a key step “towards the development of sustainable solutions” with the creation of the Portuguese Façade Association. The aim of this association is to “bring together the entire sector”, as façades “represent a very significant percentage of the construction industry”, the CMM president noted.
“With this association we will try to promote, improve and make the industry more competitive”, he emphasised.
