Respect. (from the lat. respectu) n. 1. respect; 2. consideration; high regard; 3. deference; compliance; veneration; 4. honour; worship; 5. relation; refererence...

We believe that everyone should be respected for their work, for their attitudes, opinions and options.

Rigor. (from the lat. rigore) n. 1. harshness; strength; 2.fig., severity; punctuality; accuracy.

There is no "more or less levelled", "more or less upright”, "more or less clean" or "more or less safe", but rather “levelled”, "upright”, "clean” and “safe". The rigour is reflected in our procedures, in time and in the rules to follow. In the light of moral and principles, being severe means being rigorous.

Passion. (from the lat. passione) n. 1. intense and usually violent feeling (affection, joy, hate, etc.) which hinders the exercise of impartial logic; 2. derived from a feeling; 3. great predilection; 4. partiality; 5. great grief; immense suffering...

Under the sign of passion – a text of the Portuguese poet Regina Guimarães – is our icon. Passion is to reveal great enthusiasm for something, favourable encouragement or opposite to something.
It is the sensibility transmitted by an architect or engineer through work.
Passion is the dedication to a project. Passion is a state of warm soul.

Loyalty. (from the lat. legalitate) n. the quality of being loyal; fidelity; sincerity.

Respect for the principles and rules that guide the honour and probity. Faithfulness to commitments and agreements undertaken, staunch character.

Solidarity. (from the lat. solidare) n. 1. the quality of being solidary; 2. reciprocal responsibility among the members of a group, namely social, professional, etc.; 3. sense of sharing another’s suffering.

Being solidary is being a friend, offering our hand with genuine generosity and bringing joy and human warmth to those who, somehow, are marginalized. Being solidary is being more human. A solidary company is recognized as a fair and non-selfish company. A solidary company is a preferred choice in business. It is a more competitive company. Volunteering is a vehicle to solidarity. It is modern, fair, cultured, friend, it is a noble gesture of moral elevation.

Courage. (from the lat. coraticum) n. 1. bravery facing danger; intrepidity; to have audacity; 2. moral force before a suffering or setback; 3. [fig.] to input energy when performing a difficult task; perseverance...

Courage is essential in our life. Courage to face less pleasant situations when complex issues come up, not expecting random resolutions.
It is a value that we must highlight as opposed to the fearful, cowardly and laziness.
The courage to react to criticism not with an attitude of demotivation or sadness, but rather to search for the means and the action to overcome its own reason. This kind of courage, which is also an intellectual courage, is highly recommended.

Responsibility. (from the lat respondere) n. the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct; a form of trustworthiness.

We must be certain that, before a choice, we chose what is best for both of us and not just the best for each one. Each employee is responsible for his negotiated activity and co-responsible if the co-worker does not fulfil his own task, thus preventing the common goal. A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.

New look for Lagos marina area in 2026

Expresso

The redevelopment will see the opening of two new Hilton hotels open beside the marina, a €107.8 million investment that will directly create 188 jobs.

The area around Lagos marina, close to the railway station, is undergoing a transformation with the construction of two Hilton hotels and the conversion of the old station building into a restaurant.

In reality, the changes affect both sides of the marina, located in the estuary of the Bensafrim river, with residential and commercial buildings already under construction or planned for the wasteland in the immediate surroundings of the Town Hall.

But this transformation will be most visible in the area around one of the terminal stations of the Algarve line, which connects Lagos to Vila Real de Santo António, alongside Meia Praia, one of the most famous beaches in this area of the Algarve, a 4 km expanse of sand that stretches to the river Alvor.

The intention to utilise the land next to the former railway station and the new one, which was built directly in front of it, has existed for some time. It was owned by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) until it was sold to the Canadian Mercan group in February 2022, under a policy of selling off assets or granting usage rights, implemented by IP in recent years. The company DST are building two hotels on the site: the 5-star Lagos Marina Hotel Curio Collection by Hilton and the 4-star Hilton Garden Inn Lagos.

The project has a planned budget of €107.8 million and it is estimated that 188 jobs will be created directly. The construction phase, which will last almost two years, will create almost 150 new jobs.

The Lagos Marina Hotel Curio Collection by Hilton will have a total built area of 14,776 m2, split over five floors and 180 bedrooms, a restaurant and two bars, one of them situated on a terrace with an infinity pool, as well as a second swimming pool on the ground floor. Meanwhile, the Hilton Garden Inn Lagos will offer 90 bedrooms, 27 of them suites with a kitchenette, over a gross total area of 7505 m2. It will also have a bar, a restaurant and a 24/7 vending area, as well as a gym and outdoor swimming pool.

THE MAYOR OF LAGOS COUNCIL STATES THAT THE PROJECTS WILL STRENGTHEN LAGOS AS A “TOURIST DESTINATION PAR EXCELLENCE”

The development will offer meeting rooms, as well as over 160 parking spaces between the two hotels. There will also be almost two-thousand square metres of outdoor space, the majority of which will be open to the public.

Both hotels, which will operate under the Hilton brand following the signature of a franchising agreement, will be managed by AHM – Ace Hospitality Management, a Mercan group company.

The hotels are scheduled to open next year, with Mercan Properties planning to open both simultaneously. Hugo Pereira, the Mayor of Lagos Municipal Council, was present when the first stone was laid in October and claimed that the project would reinforce the status of Lagos as a “tourist destination par excellence”.

The Mercan Properties group already has one tourist development in operation, the Hotel Califórnia Urban Beach located in Praia dos Pescadores, Albufeira – and six under construction in the Algarve region. In addition to two in Lagos, there is also Alvor Beach Hotel, Hotel Indigo Faro Ribeirinha, Marriott Lagos and Hard Rock Hotel Algarve.

The renovation of the former Lagos railway station building is not part of this project, the redevelopment being headed by another private company, Terminus Lagos Seif, Unipessoal, Lda. Work started almost two years ago. The former station, which was opened in 1922 and went out of service in 2006, will have a café and restaurant on the ground floor, and an art gallery on the 19th floor. [HS1] The building was purchased from IP in 2013, but it was not possible to move forward with the conversion until recently. Expresso attempted to contact the project developer for an expected completion date but received no response.

In order to complete the area’s redevelopment, Lagos railway museum, one of seven branches affiliated with the National Railway Museum, is also in need or renovation. It is located on the continuation of the plot where the hotels will stand, next to the new station.

The building has been closed for several years, and the space is expected to reopen to the public shortly. To this end, the Armando Ginestal Machado National Railway Museum Foundation, which manages the museum located in Entroncamento, has signed a joint management agreement with Lagos Council in July 2022. According to the local authority, “a topographical study of the interior (former engine shed) and surrounding area has been carried out, and we are now awaiting the preliminary survey by the Foundation in order to advance to the next stage of the renovation”.  The council states that this survey is “necessary, given the experience and knowledge of the Foundation in infrastructure of this nature and related museum and heritage projects”.

The agreement stated that the local authority will be “responsible for the conversion of the former engine shed and surrounding area, maintenance of the building, staffing the museum, in terms of public-facing roles, security, cleaning, promotion and events”. Meanwhile, the Foundation will “continue to manage the museum and its archives and collections jointly with the council, taking responsibility for scientific aspects, such as research and cataloguing of assets and museum and exhibition design, as well as maintaining and restoring the collections”.

Not far away, on the de São Roque road, close to the start of the boardwalk that crosses part of Meia Praia beach, which opened in 2023, stand two ruined buildings. According to the council, their ownership is unknown and for which no restoration or utilisation is planned.

“They are two longstanding ruins with no current or future public or private plans in place”, explains the local authority.
