Rigor. (from the lat. rigore) n. 1. harshness; strength; 2.fig., severity; punctuality; accuracy.

There is no "more or less levelled", "more or less upright”, "more or less clean" or "more or less safe", but rather “levelled”, "upright”, "clean” and “safe". The rigour is reflected in our procedures, in time and in the rules to follow. In the light of moral and principles, being severe means being rigorous.

Passion. (from the lat. passione) n. 1. intense and usually violent feeling (affection, joy, hate, etc.) which hinders the exercise of impartial logic; 2. derived from a feeling; 3. great predilection; 4. partiality; 5. great grief; immense suffering...

Under the sign of passion – a text of the Portuguese poet Regina Guimarães – is our icon. Passion is to reveal great enthusiasm for something, favourable encouragement or opposite to something.
It is the sensibility transmitted by an architect or engineer through work.
Passion is the dedication to a project. Passion is a state of warm soul.

Solidarity. (from the lat. solidare) n. 1. the quality of being solidary; 2. reciprocal responsibility among the members of a group, namely social, professional, etc.; 3. sense of sharing another’s suffering.

Being solidary is being a friend, offering our hand with genuine generosity and bringing joy and human warmth to those who, somehow, are marginalized. Being solidary is being more human. A solidary company is recognized as a fair and non-selfish company. A solidary company is a preferred choice in business. It is a more competitive company. Volunteering is a vehicle to solidarity. It is modern, fair, cultured, friend, it is a noble gesture of moral elevation.

Courage. (from the lat. coraticum) n. 1. bravery facing danger; intrepidity; to have audacity; 2. moral force before a suffering or setback; 3. [fig.] to input energy when performing a difficult task; perseverance...

Courage is essential in our life. Courage to face less pleasant situations when complex issues come up, not expecting random resolutions.
It is a value that we must highlight as opposed to the fearful, cowardly and laziness.
The courage to react to criticism not with an attitude of demotivation or sadness, but rather to search for the means and the action to overcome its own reason. This kind of courage, which is also an intellectual courage, is highly recommended.

Responsibility. (from the lat respondere) n. the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct; a form of trustworthiness.

We must be certain that, before a choice, we chose what is best for both of us and not just the best for each one. Each employee is responsible for his negotiated activity and co-responsible if the co-worker does not fulfil his own task, thus preventing the common goal. A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.

Photographer Syria Sonja Hamad wins dst Emerging 2016 prize

Sonja Hamad, a native of Syria, is the winner of the dst Emerging Photography Prize 2016 award, distinguished for her work "Jin - Jiyan - Azadi | Women, Life, Freedom - The Kurdish Freedom Fighters "on women fighters in Rojava, western Kurdistan, who, without fear of death and with a passion for their homeland and love of their families, fight courageously against the heavily armed group of Syria, or ISIS. The jury considered this work the most relevant and pertinent of this edition, by bringing together a set of uniquely conceptual, visual and technical characteristics. Announced by Brian Griffin, a living legend of photography and representative of this year's dst Emerging jury, the prize awarded Sonja Hamad a prize money of 7,500 euros, and her winning work will be on show in the 2018 edition of the Image Encounters Festival.

The dst Emerging Award - one of the most important international awards in the field of photography - was also awarded to Christiane Peschek an honorable mention for her work "The Fear Theories".

During the gala, which took place at Theatro Circo in Braga, the twenty finalists of the dst Emergent 2016 were also announced through a temporary exhibition at the noble hall and a video projection performed by the local duo Ermo. The usual style of fusion between the classic and the contemporary gave an even greater role to the finalists’ works. Alexandra Polina, Anna Ehrenstein, Birte Kaufmann, Carlos Alba, Catherine Leutenegger, Christiane Peschek, Dani Pujalte & Rita Puig-Serra, Eugeni Gay Márin, Georges Pacheco, Jewgeni Roppel, Joan Alvado, Karolin Kluppel, Laís Pontes, Marta Zgierska, Marilisa Cosello , Miriam Stanke, Rubi Lebovitch, Sam Harris, Sonja Hamad and Zuzana Halánová & Daniel Laurinc were the twenty authors who passed the demanding screening of the international jury, who for two days have read the portfolios of eighty photographers.

José Teixeira, chairman of the dst group's Board of Directors, recalled at the ceremony that the Arts, and in particular photography, play a preponderant role in the group's way of being, which consistently supports and promotes various initiatives related to the cultural and to the literacies of beauty.

The evening dedicated to the arts ended with a concert by the British The Irrepressibles, Jamie McDermott’s band, who, in a charming and theatrical extravaganza, delighted the crowded audience of the Theatro Circo.

The presentation of the dst Emerging Prize marked the closing of Opening Solar Week, the inaugural week of the 26th Edition of the Encontros da Imagem Festival, this year dedicated to the theme "Happiness, a place in the sun".

The dst Emerging Prize

Designed as an initiative of the dst group, this prize is integrated in the "Encounters of Image" and aims to highlight the best work in Contemporary Photography at an international level and constitutes a preferential platform for each artist to obtain an analysis of their work and eventually be included in exhibitions or editorial projects. This award, which prizes the best portfolio with 7,500 euros and an exhibition of the winning work in the next edition of the Encontros da Imagem Festival, constitutes an excellent platform for photographers to publish their work.

In addition to the stage activities, the Emerging dst audience will also have the opportunity to admire the works of the twenty finalists of this year's edition, which will be exhibited at the Theatro Circo's Hall during this Saturday's event, and to get to know in depth the exhibition Winner of the International dst Emerging Photography Award 2014, Marie-Pierre Cravedi, at the Tibães Monastery.
