A solidary company is recognized as a fair and non-selfish company. A solidary company is a preferred choice in business. It is a more competitive company. Volunteering is a vehicle to solidarity. Each employee is responsible for his negotiated activity and co-responsible if the co-worker does not fulfil his own task, thus preventing the common goal. A team is a set of individuals - is a whole. In the business game, as in social or family contexts, everyone must comply with their own relative position and we shall not permit that one of ours fails to be in our team.
O Minho
This Wednesday will witness the inauguration of the sculpture “Common Home” by Volker Schnütggen, a German artist based in Portugal, at the University of Minho’s Guimarães center.
Designed to mark the 50th anniversary of UMinho, the work - UMinho explained in a statement – was given to the academic community by the DST Group and by zet gallery, from Braga.
The ceremony will take place from 4 pm onwards at the Azurém campus in Guimarães, in the courtyard in front of the schools of Architecture, Art and Design, Science and Engineering.
The event will be attended by the rector of UMinho, Rui Vieira de Castro, the chairperson of UMinho’s 50th Anniversary Commemorative Committee, João Cardoso Rosas, and the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the DST Group and founder of zet gallery, José Teixeira.
The work was selected from a pool of 70 applications that resulted from an open call organized in February this year for national and international plastic and visual artists who were interested. Applications came in from all over the world, including Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, England, Denmark, Brazil, Chile, Türkiye, Romania, Iran, China, and Japan.
More than 30 works in public spaces
The German sculptor, Wolker Schnuettgen, who has lived in Portugal for 32 years, has more than 30 sculptures of his, in stone, steel or wood, situated in public spaces, most of them in Portuguese cities, but also in Germany and Sweden.
Wolker Schnuettgen, who lives in Sintra and is a naturalized Portuguese citizen, has as his main patron in Portugal the company DST, from Braga, owned by the businessman José Teixeira: “As well as buying several sculptures from me, he sponsored a retrospective exhibition I held at the University of Porto and the publication of a book about my work,” he said in 2021, speaking to O MINHO.
One of the pieces that remained at DST was a portico called Padra, inspired by Fernando Pessoa’s phrase: “Myth is the nothing that is everything.”
It was also at Bysteel, managed by the same entrepreneur, that he began working in stainless steel, a difficult material, but one that brings special results. He has also benefited from the support and co-operation of the Zet Gallery, in Braga, set up by DST, where he has several pieces. He also carves in wood, in French oak, which is brought over from Germany.
The 63-year-old artist, who has taught at Porto’s School of Fine Arts and held numerous exhibitions, does not reject his origins, but already feels Portuguese.
